SIX-YEAR-OLD Matthew James outpointed his four-year-old sister, Alyssa James, at the weekend to win the inaugural Russell Tennis/Hi-Lyte 6 & Under Championship held at Campion College in Liguanea.

Parents Marcus and Alice James were on edge as their children made it to the final, only to face each other.

Marcus kept mum throughout the match as Alice played cheerleader-in-chief.

"It was really nerve-racking seeing both my children playing against each other. I just sat there and said nothing," he explained with a chuckle.

For Alice, she said it was intense watching her children play against each other. "I just cheered them on. I am so proud of them both."

Alicia Pearman of Hillel Academy Prep overcame Kristina Munroe of Creative Kids 16-13 to clinch the Girls 10 & Under Intermediate title.

It was even closer in the Boys 10 & Under when Jonathan Machado edged Rhys Greenland 16-15 to walk away with the trophy.

Meanwhile, the final for the Boys and Girls 10 and under full-court championship was due to be played yesterday when Jenna Harrison from Hillel go up against Zane Walters of Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory.
