Four Paths extend unbeaten Major League run

FOUR PATHS, Clarendon — Newcomers Four Paths returned to the Clarendon/Captain's Bakery Major League summit after a pair of late goals saw them past struggling Gimme-Me-Bit on Saturday in Four Paths.
The towering Kedeen Cole, unmarked at the back-post, opened the scoring mid-way the second half with a looping header from a nicely weighted corner kick.
Kenroy Webb then sealed the 2-0 win late on with a low, far-post drive after collecting a neat through pass.
Prior to Cole's opener, Four Paths had dictated the flow of the game, but just could not get the early goal that their industry deserved.
They were fairly organised in defence, compact in midfield and imaginative going forward and were succesful in exposing their opponent's defensive frailty with some teasing through balls.
And while coach Marlon Allen will be happy with the three points and the way in which his side kept possession of the football all afternoon, he would have, no doubt, been bothered by the belated nature of the win.
Had they failed to secure the three points in a game which they dominated, it would have certainly marked a disappointed afternoon for the home side and their vocal supporters, who turned out in droves at the Four Paths Community Centre.
Nonetheless, the victory maintains their unbeaten start to the campaign, and more importantly, moved them one point ahead of fellow promoted side Jamalco in the title race — a position Allen never thought they would occupy in their debut season.
"The initial (objective) was just to maintain our Major League status... but if we see where we can go all the way then that's where we are heading," he said.
Apart from the occasional jabs at goal, Gimme-Me-Bit never really looked like they were going to leave the venue with anything more than a point, at best.
They were far too cautious in a game that they needed to win if they are to have any chance of emulating the wonderful season they had last term.
The defeat, their third of the campaign, leaves them four points clear of the relegation zone on four points -- a total mockery of the side which boasted a 100 per cent record at this stage last season.
