Franfield to see the ‘light’
The Legal Light Trophy run in honour of one of the greatest horses ever to set hoofs on local track is the feature race on tomorrow’s 10-race offering. The Legal Light is a Grade 1 event and is contested for over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m). The team from the Complete Racing Guide analyses the six horses slated to run.
FRANFIELD — Nearing his very best after a fighting win over the same distance as the Legal Light when defeating
Blue Dixie on March 25. The change of rider from Bebeto Harvey to Shane Ellis should be a plus for the chances of Franfield. Franfield meets Bigdaddykool for the first time since the December 10 Diamond Mile with no real shift in weight. Franfield should benefit from running three times already this season, making him fit and ready, and it will have to be beaten. Franfield is the choice.
BIGDADDYKOOL — The top three-year-old of last year is running for the first time in 2017 following a sweeping Boxing Day win (2016) when he beat Brawn and Houdini’s Magic.
Bigdaddykool has been steadily prepared for this race and comes in ready for duty. There is no doubt that Bigdaddykool has class, but against a more seasoned Franfield it is difficult to give him the edge. Really waiting to see how Bigdaddykool performs here.
HOVER CRAFT – Competed many times against the top layer but has always been out done.
HOUDINI’S MAGIC — Could not conjure anything when last at the track on April 8 against horses lower in the pecking order. Houdini’s Magic will have to pull one out of the bag to win.
HEY CHAMP — Will benefit.
BRAWN – Finished close to Campesino on last and with this extended trip should be better off.
Brawn is a plucky sort who will always try his best. Many will be watching to see how Harvey performs here. Has a chance, but has to make every step right.
