Wednesday, July 25, 2012

WATERHOUSE, GC Foster College, Barbican and Portmore Strikers advanced to the second round of the Sherwin Williams Colourscape KO football competition following victories on Saturday.

Waterhouse slammed Arnett Gardens, 7-0; GC Foster turned back Trelawny Women, 3-1; Barbican hammered St Thomas Strikers, 10-0, and Portmore Strikers cruised to a 5-0 win over UWI.

Following a draw, the four winners will face the four semifinalists from last year — Los Perfectos, Harbour View, Santos and Olympic Gardens — who received byes into the second round.

At Drewsland, Tasheka Small (10th, 18th, 39th and 75th) scored four times for hosts Waterhouse, while Kerona Williams (51st), Ginesha Pickersgill (61st), and Khedine Salmon (89th) also netted in the demise of Arnett Gardens.

At GC Foster, Monique Pryce (23rd and 62nd) scored for the home team, and although Kemuela Onfroy pulled one back for Trelawny a minute later, Pryce’s second goal and an own-goal in added time restored GC Foster’s cushion.

At Lysson Oval, visiting league champions Barbican got four goals from Jodi-Ann McGregor (16th, 18th, 23rd and 63rd); two from Keheisha Reid (51st and 77th), and one each from Phillisia Lewis (48th), Trudian Mills (68th), and Tianna Bundy (89th) in their whipping of St Thomas Strikers.

At Racing field, Portmore score four second-half goals in their win over UWI. Abigail Walker gave the home team a 10th-minute lead, but it was not until the 63rd before Ieasha Mowatt made it 2-0.

Rochelle Bryan then scored in the 85th, Shawna Gaye Fearon in the 88th and Venecia Reid in the 89th as the home team strolled to a comprehensive victory.

The league continues today with Barbican vs Los Perfectos at Barbican, Waterhouse vs Arnett Gardens at Waterhouse and GC Foster vs Trelawny Women at GC Foster in Zone A.

In Zone B, it’s Santos vs Portmore Strikers, Olympic Gardens vs Harbour View and St Thomas Strikers vs UWI Women at Lysson Oval. All games start at 3:30 pm.
