PETERSFIELD, Westmoreland — Petersfield High's seeming march to the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup football season came to an abrupt end on Tuesday when they were upset 1-0 by Godfrey Stewart High in their rescheduled Zone D game at the Petersfield Community Centre.
Godfrey Stewart were scoring their first win of the season which turned expectations upside down, knocked out Petersfield and allowed Mannings School to advance as the second-placed team behind Grange Hill.
The Aaron Lawrence-coached Mannings had seemed dead and buried and heading for an early exit for the second straight season after they were beaten 2-0 by Grange Hill last week to end their schedule on 14 points.
Petersfield, one of the more gifted and talented teams in the zone, had their own destinies in their hands as they needed only a draw at home to advance into the next round.
Mannings will play in Zone One of the Inter-zone round alongside Zone A winners Cornwall College, Zone B runners-up and two-time defending champions Rusea's High and Zone C winners William Knibb Memorial.
