Hanover 'derby' takes spotlight in Western Confed

Sunday, January 08, 2012

BAMBOO, Hanover — Joint Zone 2 leaders Bamboo FC will seek their third straight win this afternoon when they take on Mt Pelier at Bamboo in a Hanover 'derby' as the Jamaica Football Federation's Captain's Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League continues with four games.

After Tuesday's 2-1 win over Fogo United in their rescheduled game, also played at Bamboo, the home team will be on a high as they seek to at least keep pace with Savannah FC who will be at home to Tomorrow's People at Truro.

Both teams are on nine points from four games each at the top of Zone 2, while Granville leads Zone 1 with eight points, also from four games.

While Bamboo are enjoying early success, Mt Pelier are struggling at the bottom of the tables with two points from four games and are yet to score a win this season.

They could, however, include Rusea's marksman Brian Brown, who indicated last week he would be signing for the Hanover club instead of taking up offers from Premier League outfits.

Brown has scored over 60 goals in the last two schoolboy seasons and was one of the most sought-after strikers in the transfer window. His inclusion in the Mt Pelier team would give them a huge boost.

Savannah will take on a Tomorrow's People team coming off a big win in the St James FA KO finals and booking their place in the national KO for the first time and will be full of confidence.

Tomorrow's People have won just once in the Super League, however, despite the presence of senior players such as Gregory Tape, who has Premier League experience with Wadadah and Benfica.

Harmony, who are two points adrift of the leaders, will host Fogo United at Bounty Hall and should win their third game against the St James strugglers.

Fogo have not won since opening the season with a victory over Tomorrow's People and are coming off a loss to Bamboo on Tuesday.

In the other game today, a lone Zone 1 game, promoted Jericho Rangers and Catherine Hall, separated by just one point, will meet at Watson Taylor Park.

Games today:

Savannah FC vs TP - Truro

Bamboo vs Mt Pelier - Bamboo

Jericho Rangers vs Catherine Hall - WTP

Harmony vs Fogo United - Bounty Hall
