DEFENDING champions Holmwood Technical hammered Spalding High 109-2 in the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area High Schoolgirls Senior League netball encounter at the opponents' court recently.
The Carline Graham-Powell-coached aggregation wasted little time during the encounter to brush away their opponents in convincing fashion after shooters Shanique Dixon and Nicole Dixon (no relation) had given them a commanding 49-2 lead at half-time.
With the experienced Holmwood totally dominating play, the Dixons applied the pressure as they raced to 100 goals, a possible first for a rural school.
Meanwhile, Holmwood have completed their preliminary round of matches with four victories from as many outings to finish at the top of Zone 'E' with maximum 12 points. The second-placed team is yet to be decided to follow Holmwood through to the second round.
Holmwood's senior team's other wins were all convincing efforts — 55-12 against Bellefield High, 48-11 over Knox College and 79-5 over Winston Jones.
Holmwood's Juniors have also done extremely well as they too have made easy work of their opponents in Zone 'E' to finish on top of the point standings with maximum 12 points from four matches. They have also qualified for the second round scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 7.
Meanwhile, action continues this afternoon in the Rural Area Junior and Senior Leagues which begin at 2:30 and 3:30, respectively.
