HYDEL High blanked Ascot High 4-0 in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup football match at the Caymanas playing field yesterday to leapfrog the Portmore-based team at the top of Group A.
Taffarell Crosdale opened the scoring for the hosts in the 11th minute before Giovanni Green (24th), Kurt Thomas (37th) and Stephen Barnett (82nd) followed with three further strikes.
With the win, Hydel, last season's beaten finalists, moved to 10 points, while Ascot remained on nine.
Vassel Reynolds, Hydel's assistant coach, said getting "three points and four goals against the group leaders" was a very satisfying accomplishment for his team.
The coach of Ascot, Elton Johnson, lamented that his players "made errors in the first half" that put the game beyond their reach.
Hydel, guided by veteran coach Geoffrey Maxwell, took command through goals by Crosdale, Green and Thomas in the opening period.
The action was a lot more even in the second half as both teams mounted several half chances. But it was Hydel who went 4-0 up when Rohnako Allen sped down the left side and crossed for the unmarked Barnett to poke past Ascot's goalkeeper Deangelo Austin with eight minutes remaining.
