Hydel claim another Prep School crown
Sunday, June 06, 2010
HYDEL had to pull out all the stops to capture the BIGGA/JISA Inter-Prep Schools Track and Field Championships with a combined score of 274 points at the National Stadium yesterday.
The St Catherine school had a fight on their hands all day against rivals Vaz and Ardenne Prep before sealing victory with a few events remaining.
Hydel were well positoned entering the final day after qualifying two runners in most of the individual races. Despite losing the 4x200 metres relay to winners Vaz in both the boys and girls sections, the champs had secured a good lead and only needed to place in both events.
Vaz were second at the meet with 237 points, followed by Ardenne 157.50, Wolmer's 115, Quest 103.50, and Lannaman's 89 to complete the top six.
Four records tumbled yesterday: the Class One girls 300 metres, which was won by Shanice Ricketts of Hydel in 41.44 seconds; the Class Two boys 4x100 metres relay won by Hydel in 51.25 seconds; the 800 metres Sprint Medley Open won by Hydel in 1:49.35 seconds, and the Class Two boys 4x60 metres relay which was won by Hydel in 33.32 seconds.
