J'can Masters wins 11 medals at NACAC Champs

JAMAICA landed five gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the recent North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Masters Championships in St John, Canada.

Nigel Geohagen and Andrew Gutzmore were double gold medallists, with Colleen Hill taking the other gold in the weight throw.

Geohagen won the 5,000m walk and 10,000m walk with times of 45 minutes 19.22 seconds and 1 hour 25:51 minutes. He also earned silver medals in the 10,000m road race clocking 41 minutes 31.02 seconds and in the mixed 4x100m relay.

Gutzmore clinched gold in the 45 & Under 10,000m run in a time of 36 minutes 22.00 seconds as well as the 10K road race in 36:08.65.

Hill threw 5.64 metres to take the weight throw and won bronze in the women's 45 & Under shot put with 6.28 metres.

Other medallists were Michael Feurtado who won silver in the 10,000m with 40:28.85 and the men's mixed 4x100m relay quartet of Geohagen, Paul Robinson, Steve Kerr and Richard Reid who took the silver after USA in a time of 50.39.

Kerr earned bronze medal in the 50 & Under 200metres clocking 25.84 seconds

Meanwhile, Robinson finished fourth in the 50 & Under 100 metres (12.63 seconds) and Kerr was also fourth in the 50m shot put throwing 9.80 metres.

Jamaica Masters Athletics Association president Leo McEwan said he was "extremely pleased with the high standard of competition displayed by the athletes. This can only augur well for the further development of masters athletics in Jamaica," he added.

The NACAC Masters Championships were held from August 9 to 12.
