J'can duo features in massive Super Bowl
BY HAROLD G BAILEY Observer writer

NEW YORK, USA — For the second year in a row, a Jamaican has featured in America's premier sporting showcase, the Super Bowl. In fact, both teams in Sunday's championship game had a Jamaican player as part of its outfit.
It was Kevin Boothe who plays centre for the New York Giants who came out on top after his team's nailbiting 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Indianapolis.
Boothe is the son of Charles and Patterece Langley-Boothe who are from the parish of Clarendon.
Twenty-four-year-old Patrick Chung, son of singer Sophia George who did the 1980s hit song Girlie Girlie, was the other Jamaican in Sunday's Super Bowl game. Chung plays safety for the Patriots.
Last year, another Jamaican, Atari Bigby, was part of the Green Bay Packers team which won the Super Bowl. The involvement of Jamaicans in American-type football represent a growing interest in the sport by Jamaican nationals here.
As evidence of this interest was the hundreds who jammed sports bars and held home parties to watch and celebrate Sunday's game.

@Ina Douglas, Jamaica schools system would be better off investing in the 3R's; READING, WRITING and ARITHMETIC.

I always wonder why the Jamaican school system does not align it sports with the American market instead of the English market. Normally the scouts go to Domonica Republic and Puerto Rico to get fresh talents for Americans sports. If we were to invest in these sports in our school system it would mean more opportunities for the youths who can build good talents in theses sports, ie Basket Ball, Foot Ball, Baseball etch

If a egg we inna de red, So, what do we now do? we tax those boys because they came from the soil. Or do we use them as a vehicle of promotion? Are they proud to be Jamaicans? did they want the world to know they are Jamaicans? they are some of the questions you ask a Jamaican abroad befoe you commit them to the other side of Jamaica.
