J’can trio on target in overseas leagues
Wednesday, August 01, 2012
JAMAICANS Rafe Wolfe, Tramaine Stewart and Devon Hodges scored in domestic overseas competitions at the weekend in Hungary, Norway, and Vietnam, respectively.
Twenty-six-year-old Wolfe, playing at right defence, netted in the 67th minute for MTK to beat Kaposvári Rákóczi 3-1 in their season-opening game of the OTP Bank Liga (Nemzeti Bajnokság I) in Budapest on Sunday.
A Portmore United player, Wolfe’s right-footed goal came from a corner with second-half substitute Márk Nikházi providing the assist.
Patrik Tischler opened the scoring for MTK (Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre) in the 12th minute before Wolfe make it two and Norbert Könyves added the third in the 77th minute. Róbert Waltner scored the lone goal for Kaposvári Rákóczi in the 90th minute.
The Nemzeti Bajnokság I is the highest level of professional football in Hungary since 1901 and for sponsorship reasons is known as the OTB Bank Liga. UEFA currently ranks the league as the 29th best in Europe.
Meanwhile in Norway’s top division football, the Tippeligaen, Stewart scored in the 65th minute, his second goal of the season, for Aalesund to stop Stabæk 3-1 Sunday at the Color Line Stadion in Aalesund.
Daniel Arnefjord (43rd) and Fredrik Ulvestad (88th-penalty) were the other scorers for Aalesund, who are in ninth place with 23 points from 17 matches while Stabæk (seven points) are in cellar position in the 16-team league, ranked number 27 in Europe by UEFA. Franck Boli scored in the 94th minute for Stabæk.
Hodges, 28, also scored his second goal of the season when he netted the lone goal (58th minute) in Dong Thap’s 3-1 loss to Ha Noi TT Sunday in the Vietnam Super League.
