Jackson Relays gets cracking tomorrow

THE 26th Howard Jackson Relays will run off tomorrow at the Morant Bay High and the action is set to going on the school's ground at 9:00 am.

At the launch at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston yesterday, title sponsor Panadol handed over a cheque for $700,000 to cover some of the costs associated with the annual event.

The events down to be contested are 4x150m all classes and open; 4x300m all classes and open, 4x600m classes one to three; distance medley (300m, 600m, 900m, 1m200m) open, while the flat events are 100m and 800m open.

In honour of past student Olympian Juliet Curthbert, the 100, was added this year. The 800m was is also a new event.

Meet director, Garth Gayle, speaking at the yesterday's fucntion, said all are in place for a smooth on-time start.

Tameka Singh, consumer marketing executive at Glaxosmithkline which distributes the sponsoring brand, said her company and the brand itself was excited about the prospects of the sponsorship as it was a first for Panadol.

Among the attendees at the launch were Wilbert Walker and Dionne Jackson Miller. Walker, who represented Jamaica in the triple jump at this year World Championship in Deagu, South Korea is past student of Morant Bay.

Jackson Miller, noted journalist, is the daughter of Howard Jackson, who served as principal of the school and after whom the meet is named.
