KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Munro College and Jamaican national junior representative Senoj-Jay Givans clocked a personal best 9.96 seconds (1.6m/s) to win his semi-final heat in the 100 metres while representing the University of Texas at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon Wednesday night.
The time makes Givans the second fastest Jamaican so far this year, only behind Yohan Blake’s 9.95 seconds, and the joint sixth fastest in the world. He also becomes the 14th Jamaican male sprinter to run under the 10:00-second barrier. Paul Reid
