Jamalco, Waulgrovians in mega showdown

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Arch-rivals Jamalco and Waulgrovians 'A' will take aim at each other in the final of the 2011 Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS)/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Open League 'Elite' Group this afternoon at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Game time is 5:00 pm.

The big showdown will follow the Group 'B' final between newcomers Global United and Raven 'A' that is slated to start at 4:00 pm.

Defending champions Jamalco and Waulgrovians reached today's final when they defeated Tivoli 'A' and UWI Pelicans 'A' 26-24 and 34-30, respectively in Thursday's semi-finals.

The Group 'B' semi-finals saw Global beating Alpha 'A' 29-27 in extra time after the scores were locked at 22-22 at full time, while Raven 'A' secured their place in the final with a 29-21 win over Arnett Gardens 'A'.

Today, Jamalco will be looking for their seventh lien on the title, while Waulgrovians are hunting their 10th trophy.

Winston Nevers, coach of Jamalco, said his team is coming into this game prepared. "They will be coming out firing and will be providing us with a strong challenge, but we have our game plan set for them," Nevers said.

He added that his team's attack is solid with Simone Forbes and Jhaniele Fowler.

Waulgrovians coach, Marvette Anderson, said: "It's going to be a very competitive and exciting game. Jamalco is a good (and) experienced team and so is Waulgrovians. We won't say we are confident of winning, but if you are confident and don't play to win, you cannot win," she said.
