DEFENDING champions Jamalco will put their title on the line in the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) FASTNET competition, which gets underway this afternoon at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at noon.

This year will be the second staging of the FASTNET competition that was won in its inaugural staging last year by Jamalco, who defeated Tivoli 'A', 32-27, in the final, while Mico 'A' took third place by beating Waulgrovians 'A', 28-27.

The six participating teams are champions JAMALCO, Tivoli 'A', Waulgrovians 'A', UWI Pelicans 'A', Mico 'A' and Tivoli 'B'.

The FASTNET competition will be played in four quarters for each match with two goals being awarded for goals scored inside the shooting circle, while four goals to be awarded for a goal scored outside the shooting circle.

In the FASTNET play-off semi-finals Tivoli 'B' were awarded the match as a result of WINDALCO not taking the court when the game was scheduled to begin.

In the other semi-final Mico 'A' beat GC Foster Strikers 'A', 19-12.

In the qualifying FASTNET play-offs before the semi-finals, Tivoli 'B' beat Alpha 'A', 24-21; WINDALCO got by newcomers Global United 19-18; GC Foster Strikers 'A' got past Arnett Gardens 'A', 21-18; Mico 'A' outscored Raven 'A', 18-14.

For next Thursday's semi-finals of the "Elite" Group of the Open League, defending champions Jamalco will play UWI Pelicans 'A' and Tivoli 'A' will go up against Waulgrovians 'A' at 6:45 pm. In the Open League Group 'B', the semi-finals pairings are Alpha 'A' versus Global United and Arnett Gardens 'A' vs Raven 'A'.
