KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Schoolboy 400 metre runner Javon Francis copped the People's Choice Performance Award at the RJR Sportsman and Woman Awards in Kingston Friday night.

Francis walked away with the award after scoring the highest number of votes from Jamaica and overseas, through emails and an OBSERVER ONLINE poll.

Young Francis shot to prominence at last year’s World Championships in Russia where he anchored the Jamaica 4x400 relay team to an unexpected silver medal.

Francis’ remarkable leg after receiving the baton down the track in Moscow saw him overtaking competitors in a blistering run on the back stretch ending in gutsy determination to give Jamaica second place.
