Knights vs Thunder in Hi-lyte/Insport clash
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Runaway leaders and early quarter-final qualifiers Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights are expected to get their stiffest test in the Hi-lyte/Insport Western Basketball Association's Men's Basketball Championships this evening when they take on William Knibb Thunder at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 6:30.
The Knights are undefeated after seven games and lead the tables with 14 points, while the Thunder are on eight points from just five games played.
Trelawny Tornadoes, who beat Inner-City Avalanche on Sunday, and Rockybar Balers, are tied for second place on 11 points, with Coral Gardens Raptors, who beat Cardinals, and Avalanche tied on nine points.
On Sunday, Tornadoes held off Avalanche to win, 73-67, as Anthoniel Watson and Diego Hines combined for 43 points.
Watson led the way with 23 points, while Hines scored 20 points and had 20 rebounds. Daniel Henry chipped in with 11 points for the winners.
Andy Simpson scored 18 points to lead Avalanche, while Dane Morris scored 15 points.
The Raptors rebounded from their loss to Knights on Tuesday to hand Muschett Cardinals their fourth straight beating, 66-61, in a close game that was only decided in the fourth quarter.
Cardinals led by six points, 18-12, after the first quarter, but Raptors rallied to tie up the scores at 30-all at half-time and both teams battled to a 41-all score going into the fourth quarter, where the Raptors outscored the home team, 20-15, to grab their third win.
Chayne Topey led Raptors with a season-high 30 points, Jerome Kisena scored 12 points, while Winston Scarlett scored 10.
Michael Schloss was the top-scorer for Cardinals with 17 points; Alston Billings scored 12 points, while Shaquille Rose scored 10 points.
