LIME gives $250,000 for 2012 Karl Dalhouse swim meet
Saturday, February 04, 2012
LIME, Jamaica's only full service telecoms company, has provided $250,000 to sponsor the 'Y' Speedos Karl Dalhouse International Memorial Swim Meet for the second consecutive year.
The 17th staging of the meet kicked off yesterday at the National Stadium Pool in Kingston and runs until tomorrow. The event will bring together 300 swimmers from eight local clubs contesting individual events and relays as they vie for an overall team title.
“Sports is one of the areas that LIME has consistently supported and we are pleased to add swimming to the extensive list of local sports that we have aligned our brand and company with,” said LIME Jamaica's corporate communications manager, Camille Taylor.
“Jamaica has been steadily progressing in international swimming, but we would like to see our swimmers achieve global recognition and that starts with us providing tangible support at the local level,” she added.
The Tornados Swim Club, who took the championship last year, are aiming to retain their title. However, the defending champions are expected to face serious challenges from the Marlins and Y Speedos teams who are both in championship contention.
Explosive action is anticipated in the boys' 15-17 age group where four of the country's hottest stars will be competing. Brothers Justin and Sean James, Sidrelle Williams and Antionne Young, who are all in good form, will go head to head during the threeday meet.
In the girls' competition Angara Sinclair, 11/12, and Gabrielle Hopkins, 13/14, are expected to shine in their age groups, while Brianna Roman and Leanne McMaster will do battle in 15-17 category.
“The 'Y' Speedos Karl Dalhouse Meet continues to be one of the highlights of the local swimming calendar as we always strive to put on an event of international standards,” said meet director, Dr Brian James.
“Jamaica has consistently produced swimmers who have been competitive on the international stage and meets like Karl Dalhouse play a strong role in preparing our swimmers to go to the next level. A number of the swimmers will represent Jamaica at Carifta and CISC based on this weekend's performance,” he added.
