Paul Reid
Monday, October 08, 2012
MOCHO, Clarendon — Lennon High will have their eyes on a place in the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys football competition today when they host Clarendon College in a replay Zone H return-round game, set to start at 3:00 pm.
The game was called off early in the first half on Saturday due to heavy rains and lightning.
Lennon High lead the zone with 14 points from six games, one more than the former champions who have played a game less.
Both teams had drawn 3-3 in their first meeting this season and are undefeated so far, having won their last two but Lennon's only blemish at home so far was a first round 0-0 draw against Edwin Allen whose win on Saturday against Claude McKay keeps them in the race for the Inter-zone, is only mathematically.
A win for Clarendon would see them take over the lead and put them within a point of a place in the next round withy a game at home against Edwin Allen on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, seven schools have already secured a place in the next round as the race for Inter-zone places heats up.
The schools already sure of their places are Cornwall College from Zone A, William Knibb Memorial from Zone C, St Elizabeth Technical from Zone E, Spalding High from Zone G, Garvey Maceo and Glenmuir from Zone M and Paul Bogle High from Zone O.
Eleven more games will be played tomorrow afternoon.
