DAMION Walker and Evelyn Abiola are headed for Jamaica for the Reggae Marathon on December 3 after winning the male and female sections, respectively, in the inaugural Team Jamaica Bickle/Awesome Power 5K, held at Baisley Park, Queens, New York two weekends ago.
As part of their winning incentives the pair was given an all-expenses-paid trip to take part in the Reggae Marathon that will be held in Negril, including air travel and hotel accommodation.
Walker finished first in a time of 18 minutes 02.5 seconds in the male category ahead of Marc Smith (18 minutes 21.7 seconds) with third place going to Armando Wawsom in 18 minutes 27.1 seconds.
Abiola topped the women's section in 18 minutes 59.5 seconds with Elizabeth Perez second in 19 minutes 55.3 seconds and Charlen Bossut third in 20 minutes 57.2 seconds. Irwine Clare, CEO of Team Jamaica , said they expected a much-improved event next year. "Consider this our dress rehearsal; next year will be bigger and better. We have learnt a lot on this first outing."
Clare said also "it is a good thing for us. It is a great thing for the community as we strive to strengthen our organisations on behalf of our athletes, our ambassadors".
