THE wealth of talent emerging at Arnett Gardens is overwhelming and coach Paul "Tegat" Davis threw in five of last season's Under-21 championship team as they rang rings around an experienced Humble Lion outfit, winning 1-0.
In front of a usual decent crowd at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Davis started with Lamar Nelson, Jason Moore, Vishinul Harris, Ricardo Oldham and Fabian Reid.
Along with captain Kirk Ramsey, Leon Strickland, Williams Richards, Gerald Neil and later Marcelino Blackburn, they ran the Humble Lion aggregation ragged for 90 minutes.
"Just like the Tivoli game, I think we started out lacklustre and were slow off the mark. Good guys (the U-21 players), but they need to realise that this is the Premier League and it's a high tempo game and we have to move much faster in terms of control and passing.
"But it will take game by game for them to realise that," Davis explained.
If he was not too pleased, what could be said of Humble Lion's coach Lenworth Hyde? He could not be found for post-match comments.
Humble Lion, with seasoned campaigners in Adrian Mitchell, Kirk Duckworth; the hard-tackling Ricardo Campbell; Sean Coleman, Carlington Smith, Jermaine Christian and Omando McLeod, barely got a look in a disappointing performance from last season's fourth-placed team.
Arnett maintained their premiership lead with a dominant performance which the scoreline didn't truly reflect. The promising Nelson netted his second goal this season from the spot in the 56th minute after Kirk Ramsey was uprooted in the box.
They moved to six points from two games, the same as Sporting Central with both teams having identical goal difference after two rounds.
"It's a good win at home; we haven't done that for a while. I think we got some easy chances... when they were down to 10 men we should have capitalised with another goal," said Davis.
Nelson, the local rising star, was at his imperious best yet again. The talented playmaker was all over the park, pulling the strings for Arnett, and for the first time in years, one could hear fans shouting "baaall", in appreciation of the beautiful football orchestrated by Nelson.
Nelson had to be substituted in the 78th after succumbing to several knocks he received — one courtesy of Ricardo Campbell which saw him picking up a second caution.
