JCA disciplinary panel rules that Baugh resume training today
THE disciplinary panel of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) has ruled that Carlton Baugh Jr resume training with the national team today following a hearing on Friday.
The wicketkeeper batsman who was barred from training with the rest of the team as at last December 21, as a result of a stand-off between himself and the national selection panel chaired by Wavell Hinds, confirmed that the issue has been resolved.
"I received a call from the JCA saying I should resume training on Sunday," Baugh told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
The 31-year-old gloveman now has the chance to be a part of the final 14-man squad for the Super50 competition, which is expected to be named by Friday.
Baugh was represented at the hearing by Michael Hall.
Baugh was brought before the disciplinary panel after he requested a day off from practice when he realised there was a clash with personal business he had to undertake on December 20.
The JCA secretariat, it is alleged, declined the request, but Baugh still missed that training session. The sidelined West Indies player was subsequently told that he would not be allowed to take part in team practice until a disciplinary hearing was held.
However, it is understood that the player consistently turned up at the training venue where he went through his paces, outside of the team's schedule.
Efforts to get a comment from a JCA official yesterday proved futile.
The senior player has been Jamaica's most prominent wicketkeeper batsman in recent times, having played 102 first-class matches, amassing a total of 12 centuries and 22 half centuries at an average of 32.87, taking 205 catches and executing 24 stumpings.
He has featured in 99 List A matches where he has two half-centuries, collected 101 catches and 27 stumpings.
His duties for the West Indies saw him taking part in 21 Test matches in which he has three half-centuries, 43 catches and five stumpings. He has also taken part in 47 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). His last stint for the regional side was in April 2012.
