P'More, Frazsiers Whip in KO showdown
Andrew Hancel
Sunday, February 05, 2012
PORTMORE United will seek to reclaim the LIME Happy Sutherland KO trophy when they face title-holder Frazsiers Whip FC in the 5:00 pm final at Prison Oval today.
The Premier League leaders last lifted the coveted cup two seasons aback, but victory should be sweeter this time around as it was Frazsiers who eliminated them last season en route to the title.
Portmore playmaker Andrew Vanzie remains overseas on trial. However, Alanzo Adlam, who was also on trial with Vanzie, has returned but will not play because of a shoulder injury.
Top marksman Tremaine Stewart who has nine goals in the Premier League is also doubtful as he is nursing an ankle injury.
Former Frazsiers striker Nico Brett would want to prove a point, if given the chance against his old club.
Olanzo Brown has been snapped up by Frazsiers from McCooks Pen FC during the transfer window, but the Major League's leading goalscorer is cup tied and will have to watch from the stands.
No other worries exist in the camp from Red Pond and the highly anticipated rematch that most fans want to see should provide plenty excitement throughout.
As they have been in all matches in this competition, Portmore will start favourites against a team two tiers below. They are the top team in the country, sitting atop the premiership while winning the first End-of-Round final before losing the second on penalties two weeks ago. The brand of football coach Calvin Lewis has them playing makes them attractive to watch and difficult to beat.
The absence of a few key players in the Portmore camp won't affect them too much either, but they'll be mindful of a Frazsiers unit which knocked them out of this competition last year at the quarter-final stage.
