Pete'swildone set to groove in Reggae Trophy race

A knotty-looking Reggae Trophy race among Graded Stakes runners is down to highlight a well-supported 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.

A small but very competitive field of seven is carded for the 1,000 metres straight call to go to post at approximately 4:35 pm with first post at 12:35 pm.

The Ian Parsard-conditioned Pete'swildone, though not an established straight horse, looks to be, sneakingly, the one they will all have to beat after they are sent on their way.

Right on top of his game at present and a consistent Grade I performer, the four-year-old bay colt by Gimmeawink out of Wild In Manila (Wild Rush) is bristling with good racing form and following his three wins from his last six races. He has been rewarded with a hike in the weights following a real gutsy performance behind Commanding Chief and Typewriter in The Viceroy Trophy carrying a mere 50.0kg.

With that strong performance and a 5.5kg rise in the scales to come in at 55.5kg is evidence of a horse going places and in really good nick at present.

This is no easy call for any of the seven runners present and Pete'swildone is not expected to receive any quarters from even stablemates Potcheen, who carries top weight of 57.0kg and Richard Mitchell and Uppa Tune, who is very adept over the straight and to be ridden by Paul Francis with a mere 50.0kg.

Double The Honey, trained by champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta is another who is no chicken going straight, and with the second title-chasing Dick Cardenas in the irons, Pete'swildone will have to be real wild to justify his favoured tag. To, therefore, ensure capable handling, trainer Parsard has called on the services of the champion and leading rider Dane Nelson to partner the colt.

In the colt's third start for the season, he finished down the track in a time of 59.2 seconds going 1,000 metres straight, but will be in much better shape for his 10th race of the season decorated with four wins, two more than any of his rivals.
