IN keeping with a promise for more competitive racing, a dynamic 10-race card is on at Caymanas Park today streamlined by three creative-looking trophy races that include the return of the much-vaunted $180,000 Claiming Series in two divisions sponsored by Talawah Beer.

The Millard Ziadie Cup, another steamy claiming affair, and the native-bred three-year-old maiden special weight Mercury Sprint for colts and geldings are the other two engagements on the card.

The Millard Ziadie optional claiming scamper has attracted a speedy field of 11 starters campaigning in the claiming group $350,000 - $300,000, three-year-olds and upward, and native-bred five-year-olds (NW5) going 1,100 metres for a purse of $492,000.

It is the penultimate race on the card and has a post time set at approximately 4:30 pm with first post at 12:20 pm.

In a race of this nature the speedy American-bred five-year-old bay gelding Real Vibes Machine looks to have a slight edge over his opponents, even though Time And Again has proven to be a short runner. But, after that encouraging performance on last on a $450,000 claiming tag, while running for trainer Lorne Kirlew, he looks a good bet to return to the winner's enclosure for the first time since August 13 when he beat fellow American-bred Sir D going 1,000 metres straight.

Now owned by Oliver S Gray, Real Vibes Machine is just as effective going over the straight course as well as rounding the bends. Trevor Simpson, the five-time champion jockey, gets the call.

The presence of Vibes Master, who is now thrown in for a tag; Emergence, a known galloper who has in the past won over this particular type of distance on a similar tag; along with the somewhat disappointing but capable five-year-old chestnut mare Sovereign Over All; as well as Donata, Sahara or Priceless Gold could serve to force Real Vibes Machine into rediscovering his exciting turn of foot to go all the way. Failing to do so, it should not surprise any to see one of the aforementioned gallopers filling the breach.ONES
