TACKY, St Mary — Former champions Dinthill Technical could be the second team to confirm their place in the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup today with a win over Tacky High in their return-round Zone K game at Tacky.
Dinthill lead Zone K with 17 points and three more would see them securing one of the two berths, leaving second-placed Bog Walk, Tacky and long shots Ewarton High to battle for the other.
St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) is the only school so far to have confirmed its place from Zone E.
Meanwhile, there were wins for two-time defending champions Rusea's and Christiana High in rescheduled games yesterday.
Rusea's rebounded from a goal-less draw against Cambridge to beat a stubborn Herbert Morrison, 3-0, in Bogue, Montego Bay to move to 13 points from five games — two off Zone B leaders Frome Technical with a game in hand.
After defending stubbornly, Herbert Morrison's defence finally cracked under pressure when Gregory Watson gave up a penalty when he attempted an overhead kick in the area and struck Anthony Walker in the face.
Demar Dohman converted the penalty kick while Keano Williams and Kyle Anderson added second-half goals to give the champions some breathing space.
At Kirkvine, Christiana High edged nine-man Holmwood Technical, 1-0, to edge past them into second place in Zone G. Christiana are now on 13 points, eight behind leaders Spalding, who have virtually secured their place in the next round and could confirm this against Knox tomorrow.
Christiana are on 21 points and as of yesterday, only Christiana could surpass them, while on paper, Holmwood could match them on points.
