ON a day when seven of the eight races
carded were trophy races, imported colt Richieshappynotion highlighted the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission BG&LC Emancipation Day race programme at Caymanas Park yesterday by winning the 8th running of the $800,000 BG&LC Trophy main feature by two lengths.
Trained by Lorne Kirlew for owner Jigzy Blades, Richieshappynotion, the odds on 1-4 favourite, obliged in the Open Allowance three-year-olds and upward contest over 1,100 metres in a time of 1:06.3 minutes and registered his third consecutive win and fifth for the season from seven starts.
Trainer Kirlew had anticipated better from his charge: "I was looking for a much better time."
Rio Cobre, a four-year-old dark bay gelding ridden by leading jockey Dane Nelson and neglected in the betting at odds of 8-1, renewed his challenge after turning for home to snatch second from Sir D, another 8-1 shot and imported four-year-old colt, partnered by Devon A Thomas, by half-a-length.
Traditional Prince ridden by Richard Mairs completed the frame as a 44-1 bet, in the field
of eight.
By Great Notion out of Happy Silvia (King Of Kings) bred by Kaye-Garcia, Carol Ann in the USA, Richieshappynotion was winning for the sixth time from nine career starts and earned $436,800 as the winner's share for earnings of $2,748,400 lifetime.
