Roper Cup 48: Fun, family, frolic
Saturday, September 01, 2012
The 48th renewal of the annual Roper Cup football extravaganza between long-time North Street rivals St George's College (the 2011 schoolboy triple crown champion) and Kingston College will be held today at Emmet Park.
The action is scheduled to get underway at noon and will showcase the football skills of many former Manning Cup standouts from both schools, including this year's honoree Gerry Murray.
Murray played on the victorious 1967 Kingston College team.
To get the ball rolling, Under-35 players will match skills and they are to be followed by veterans, 35 and over.
The match of the day, as his customary, will feature the current Manning Cup teams of both school in a dress rehearsal of sorts for the start of the new season.
Following the on-field action, there will be a lyme at the Emmet Park Pavilion with a family oriented entertainment package. There will be prizes and surprises.
The event is sponsored by Bad Dawg Sausages, Barco, CB Chicken, Caribbean Cream Limited, Crimson Dawn, E-Pay, Hi-Lyte Sport Drink, Spanish Court Hotel, SportsMax TV, Supreme Ventures, Total Heroes Circle, and Western Sports.
