MONTEGO BAY, St James — Back-to-back daCosta Cup champions Rusea’s High will take on Mannings at Frome Sports Grounds this afternoon as the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition gets underway with three games.

The competition took a break for the playing of the first three rounds of the Ben Francis KO.

Lennon High and Bellefield will meet at Brancourt, while one of the best third-place teams, Maggotty High, will meet Tacius Golding at STETHS Complex in Santa Cruz. All games will start at 3:00.

Thirteen more games will be played tomorrow, with two more slated for Friday afternoon.

The 32 teams, two from each of the 15 zones, plus two best third-placed teams, one each from two pools of teams, qualified for the Inter-Zone where they will play in eight groups, with only the winners advancing to the quarter-finals.

Today, Rusea’s will be on a mission against a lucky Mannings team which is only in the second round after Petersfield miscalculated and lost to out-of-contention Godfrey Stewart in a Zone D game when they needed a win to advance.

Rusea’s missed the Ben Francis KO for the first time in five years when they finished second to Frome Technical and could benefit from the time off.

Maggotty, who are advancing past the first round for the first time since 1999, will have some home advantage over Tacius Golding, as they will play at STETHS Complex.

Lennon will be hoping to improve on last season when they qualified for the Inter-Zone round but failed to move on, while Bellefield are getting this far for the first time since 2009.
