PONDSIDE, Hanover — Twotime defending champions Rusea’s High joined eight other schools in winning their first three games after beating Merlene Ottey High 2-0 in the Zone B ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup rescheduled game in Pondside, Hanover, yesterday.
The game was originally set for Saturday, but was pushed back to accommodate the funeral of a past vice-principal of Green Island High.
Jovan James and Anthony Walker scored for Rusea’s who are yet to concede a goal, but trail Frome Technical on goals scored, as both are tied on nine points and the same goal differential of plus eight.
The other schools that have won their first three games are Frome, STETHS, Spalding, Dinthill, Bog Walk, Port Antonio High, Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo.
In another Zone B game played yesterday, Green Island High rebounded from their 0-4 loss to Rusea’s on Tuesday to edge winless Cambridge High 2-1 in Cambridge.
Shane Sterling and Nayo Simmonds gave Green Island a 2-0 half-time lead before they gave up a second-half penalty, but held on for their second win of the season. The competition continues tomorrow with 36 games.
