STATHS student receives VCB Foundation scholarship

BY PAUL A REID Observer Writer

Thursday, January 26, 2012

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Terry-Shanice Matthias, an eighth grade student at St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), was last Friday presented with her bursary from the Veronica Campbell Brown Foundation in a brief ceremony at the school.

The 13-year-old Matthias, who is the third of four young ladies who will receive the scholarships, is a member of the school's volleyball team and was also presented with an autographed edition of Campbell Brown's book A Better You: Inspirations for Life's Journey.

Among those present at the presentation were the school's principal Mrs Curline Christie and school board president Silvera Castro.

Matthias joins Vere Technical's Elaine Ewers and Irwin High School's Pattrina James as the other young ladies who have so far been named. The fourth recipient from Troy High School in Southern Trelawny will be named soon.

The Foundation was launched in 2010, and according to Campbell Brown, the mandate is to "effect change in the lives of young women".
