Saint Cecelia to go fast in She’s On Wheels trophy race

WITH the imported Mismyrtleboyrichie stumbling at the final quarter and in the process failing to eclipse War Zone’s 12 consecutive win record, it’s now over to the local mercurial mare, Saint Cecelia to take up the mantle.

A winner of seven consecutive wins and still counting Saint Cecelia, the reigning Horse-Of-The-Year, will go in search of her eighth consecutive and a repeat in her dam’s $786,500 She’s On Wheels Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.

A Graded Stakes race for three-yearolds upward, they will go 1,100 metres scheduled for approximately 4:50 pm with first post at 1:10 pm.

Owned by Robert F Chung & WP Valentine Chung, the five-year-old chestnut mare, also the champion sprinter trained by Spencer Chung, will take on four rivals as she seeks to defend the trophy she won at about this time last year in Stakes record time of 1:03.4 — a distinction she shares with the imported Regina Savage.

Saint Cecelia has only raced twice, and in both races, showed why she is the champion sprinter upending other than the very fast American-bred colt Blast Them Away. Twice getting the better of him by sizeable margins.

Trainer Chung will send Saint Cecelia to the wicket as fit as hands can make her with one eye on repeating in the event and the other to again spoil the dance for the talented American-bred filly Noon It Is, who had previously racked up a quadruple of wins before falling to Saint Cecelia on last going 1,300 metres.

Notwithstanding, Saint Cecelia’s will be giving up 7.0kg to this notably fast filly trained by Gary Subratie and has a very good record over the trip of 1,100 metres in decent winning times of 1:05.3 and 1:05.4. And while they are at the grades below, never underestimate the resolve of the opposition. Mismyrtleboyrichie gave up the same margin to fellow American Emperor Hall. The outcome of that race is now history.

Apart from Noon It Is, neither Rio Cobre, Blackie Davis nor The Guv, stablemate of Saint Cecelia, are expected to seriously challenge the daughter of Burning Marque out of She’s On Wheels (Bates Motel) bred by Ham Stables Ltd.
