Scotiabank claim Inter-Bank One-Day Rally

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

SCOTIABANK Group won their fourth straight Bankers Association One Day Five-A-Side Football title as they defeated Pan Caribbean/Sagicor, 2-0, in the final at the NWC playing field, Mona last Sunday.

Nine teams participated in the 2012 renewal of the JNBS/Western Sports-sponsored Inter-Bank contest, with JMMB making a return this year.

In the semi-finals, Scotiabank defeated JNBS, 2-1, while Pan Caribbean/Sagicor clipped Bank of Jamaica (BoJ), 1-0. Lady Luck was on Scotiabank's side as in the fourth minute, defender Maurice Mcdonald deflected a shot from Jamoy Sibblies from the hands of goalkeeper John Bryan and into his own goal to give Scotiabank the lead as the half ended 1-0.

On the resumption, Scotiabank went further ahead after Sibblies was fouled by Marvin Douglas in the box and referee Sean Grant awarded a penalty in the 21st.

Anthony Greenland scored to give Scotiabank a 2-0 lead, which they maintained to the final whistle.

The traditional Dress Parade was won by Scotiabank Group, with BoJ placing second and RBC Royal Bank third. The league competition for the Norman Goodison Trophy will kick-off on Sunday with four matches.
