A 16-member team left the island yesterday morning on route to Leon Mexico where they will represent Jamaica in the NACAC Under-23 competition scheduled to get underway today and end on Sunday.
Ten men and six women were named in the team which will be coached by Edward Hector and Leacroft Bolt.
Two-time national discus champion Traves Smikle, who attained the Olympic A qualifying standard when he threw a personal best 67.12 metres at last week's JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships, leads the men's team which also includes former IAAF World Youth Championships 200m champion Ramone McKenzie, NCAA discus Champions Chad Wright and pole vaulter K'Don Samuels.
Overseas-based 800m runner Richard West and quarter-miler Akino Ming were also named.
Two athletes who competed for the first time in Jamaica last weekend, 800m runner Asia Henry and new national high jump champion Saniel Atkinson-Grier, were named on the female team that will also include Pan-American Junior championships 400m hurdles silver medalist Danielle Dowie.
