THE second staging of the two-day St George's College Invitational Tournament is set to begin today with the hosts meeting staunch Manning Cup rivals Jamaica College at 2:00 pm at the Winchester Park playfield on North Street.

As per the draw, which was done at the Western Sports outlet in Twin Gates Plaza yesterday, rural area aspirants Cornwall College and Manchester High are slated to clash in the second match of the double-header at 4:00 pm.

Tomorrow will see St George's College opposing Cornwall College in the 2:00 pm curtain-raiser, while Manchester face Jamaica College in the second match.

The pre-season tournament is expected to offer useful practice and preparation for squads ahead of next month's start of the schoolboy season.

The event welcomes a new major sponsor this season in Hi-Lyte Sports Drinks and will see the teams battling for the Western Sports Trophy.

The team with most points will win the $40,000 first-place prize, while the runners-up will pocket $20,000. Head-to-head will be used to separate teams even on points and goal difference will serve as the second tie-breaker.

An award will also be given to the Most Valuable Player as well as the leading goal-scorer.

Wolmer's Boys' stunned St George's 3-1 in the deciding match at the inaugural tournament last season. Munro College and Spalding High were the other participants then.

St George's College went on to win the Manning Cup, Walker Cup Knock-out and all-island Olivier Shield titles last year.
