Super League back on the ball after suspension

Andrew Hancel

Saturday, February 04, 2012

The South Central Confederation Super League resumes this weekend after clubs, who were delinquent, made good on their promise to pay outstanding referees' fees.

Round eight matches will mark the return to action over the weekend, while last week's suspended seventh round has been rescheduled to dates yet to be announced.

Four of the 12 competing teams had outstanding payments to me made after six rounds, forcing the organisers to suspend the league in order to avoid a possible strike by match officials down the road.

"The teams made good on their promise," said Dale Spencer, chairman of the South Central Confederation. "I have been in touch with our league director, who informed me that the clubs have paid... and payments have been made to the referees' accounts."

"We understand that there are some issues and we will be working to iron out any difficulties that exist, as there are some fundamental issues that we need to address with regards to the sustainability and viability of the Super League," added Spencer.

Meanwhile, Rivoli hosts Meadows in the feature match of the round today. Rivoli hold a one-point lead atop the standings ahead of their opponents, who were knocked off the summit after being held by New Green in round six.

There are also two very interesting match-ups on the day as well with Bodles at home to Naggo Head, while Downs of Manchester visit Royal Lakes at Lime Tree.

Tomorrow, Spartan journey to De la Vega City in Spanish Town and will be hoping for a better result after losing to Monymusk in the Clarendon derby last time out.

Third-placed Monymusk will be oozing confidence as they await bottom side Newland, while New Green and St Elizabeth's Super Action will both go in search of their second win of the competition when they meet at Brooks Park in Mandeville, Manchester.

All games are scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
