TALAWAH and Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) have come together in the promotion of the famed and much vaunted Superstakes race day which is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at Caymanas Park.
The brand known for its "big taste, likkle price" will be providing purse money of $1.5 million for the TALAWAH Superstakes — a native bred three-year-old and up weight for age invitational; the TALAWAH Sprint Championship for native bred three year olds and up invitational; and the TALAWAH Imported Mile for three year olds and up — a handicap invitational. An additional $500,000 will be allocated for three other race days to be announced later.
It is a partnership that was long overdue, brand manager of TALAWAH Erin Mictchell said. "TALAWAH is a value-priced beer that celebrates our Jamaican heritage. Obviously horse racing is one of the biggest sports in Jamaica and TALAWAH wants to be the drink of choice at horse racing."
CTL is welcoming TALAWAH with open arms as it believes the partnership is the first step towards greater things for the racing industry.
"It's a great partnership. Tying a brand such as TALAWAH to horse racing, which is one of the biggest sports — if not the biggest sport — is a big deal for us," said CTL's Executive Marketing Manager David Hobson. "For them to get back into racing is a positive move because they controlled racing over 20 years ago with Red Stripe Beer. This is the continuation of a wonderful trend and a stepping stone for horse racing to get back into the limelight with the punters and the general population. This is a wonderful partnership and I am excited about it," the CTL executive said.
Mitchell also revealed that TALAWAH will be providing the entertainment as well as the prizes and giveaways on Superstakes Day.
"The partnership between CTL and TALAWAH will ensure that fans of horse racing enjoy a very special Superstakes Day as TALAWAH is bringing the excitement and its 'big taste, likkle price' to Superstakes Day. We are encouraging people to come out to the race track in their black, gold and green to celebrate in true TALAWAH style," Mitchell said.
