FOR the second consecutive year, the winners of the male and female sections of the Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) 5K run in New York later this month will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the Reggae Marathon to be held in Negril on December 1.
The second staging of the event takes place on October 20 at Baisley Park, Queens under the theme, 'Promoting Healthy Lifestyles', and is being staged by Awesome Power Track Club and sanctioned by the United States of America Track and Field (USATF), the governing body for the sport in the United States.
A press release from the sponsors said the "overall male and female winners of the 5K events will receive automatic entry to the Reggae Marathon, in Negril, Jamaica, plus air fare, hotel and ground transportation".
Organisers of the event are expecting to attract participants from a wide cross-section of the north-eastern United States to the three events — the 5K Run, 5K Walk or One-Mile Run.
TJB's CEO, Irwine Clare, is quoted in the release as saying, "We are extremely pleased with the continued support of the Reggae Marathon for the second year running.
"The community is being encouraged to get active and walk with us. In this year that Jamaica and Trinidad celebrate 50 years of political independence, coupled with the Caribbean's prolific performance at the Olympics, this 5K is a fitting celebratory endeavour with a positive message for our community."
