MINISTEROFJUSTICE, the seven-year-old with a few shots still left in his arsenal, returns to claiming company for the second time this season with a shot at the $570,000 Cecil C Charlton Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today at approximately 4:30 pm, with first post at 12:30.
Set among $550,000 - $500,000 claimers (three-year-olds upward) and native-bred four-year-olds (NW4), 10 will contest the event going 1,300m and the joint 1,000m straight record holder is evenly poised at 54.0kg to register his 12th win from 70 career starts.
Trained by Gary Subratie for owner True Friends, Ministerfjustice, a chestnut horse by Royal Minister out of Sub Zero (French Champagne), bred by Kelvin Jones & Michael McIntosh, takes a drop in class following two good runs in the grade above.
While campaigning in the grade above, he was narrowly beaten in a gritty performance going 1,400m after stepping up from claiming.
Returning to where he is more than comfortable with four good runs under his girth, the proven campaigner, a narrow loser in the Jockey Club Stakes going 1,400m should be equipped to make amends with 100m less to travel.
Leading jockey Dane Nelson, who was his favourite rider four or so years ago when they equalled the track record and who was again astride when running as a loose cannon on September 28, returns to the saddle in place of Richard Mitchell, who also shared rides with Nelson on Ministerofjustice when trained by McIntosh and later, by Arnold Rambally.
However, Ministerofjustice will have to do some serious running to escape the challenges of Jaylen, the in-form Rolex and the well drilled three-year-old chestnut filly, Mom's Secret.
Rolex, the mount of Omar Walker, is coming off of a good win in the grade and should have a serious say in the outcome, although not the most consistent of runners.
Nonetheless, with Walker remaining in the irons for trainer Lawrence Freemantle, the five-year-old chestnut son of A King Is Born out of Oriental Flyer (Fly So Free) should relish the increase in journey, though saddled with top weight of 56.0kg.
Jaylen, who came out of the same race as Rolex in third, will also enjoy 1,300m and was seen making good late headway. However, though expected to be competitive, the six-yer-old chestnut son of Burning Marque out of Brini Baby (Cabrini Green) may have to settle for minor share, even with Shane Ellis entrenched in place of Dane Nelson, who has jumped ship for Ministerofjustice.
