Team Jamaica Bickle stays true to GC Foster College

TEAM Jamaica Bickle has extended its alliance with G C Foster College to 12 years yesterday with the handing over of a US$7,500 (JMD$640,000) cheque for financial support to 12 student athletes.
Managing director of Team Jamaica Bickle Irwine Clare made the announcement at the Sports Development Foundation, Phoenix Avenue.
GC Foster College's Athletic Director Ventley Brown, describing the relationship with Bickle as a "marriage", noted that World University Games 200m champion Rasheed Dwyer has been benefiting for three years now.
Clare, whose organisation has become well-known for supporting high school athletes to the annual Penn Relays for almost 20 years, noted that his members of Jamaicans living in the United States were committed to investing in athletes, "our ambassadors".
This year Claire noted that Team Jamaica Bickle would attempt to cut the accommodation cost to athletes by as much as 50 per cent.
Accommodation cost is second only to airfare for Jamaica athletes, Clare explained, with Bickle already taking care of food and transportation.
Chief Financial Officer for Team Jamaica Bickle Lance Clarke, who presented the cheque to GC Foster College principal Edward Shakes, noted that the sports-centred tertiary institution has received at least US$85,000 over the dozen years from his organisation.
Athletic director Brown highlighted that the college was not just interested in creating athletes such Schillonie Calvert and Rosemarie Whyte, but "in coaches and PE teachers" as a career.
Principal Shakes expressed his appreciation to Team Jamaica Bickle for providing accommodation, nutrition, transportation, and scholarships to GC Foster College student athletes, as well as Jamaicans here and overseas.
