CROSS KEYS, Manchester — Three schools — Manchester High, Garvey Maceo High and William Knibb Memorial — moved to within a win of securing their places in the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys' football competition after scoring good wins in return-round games yesterday.
Manchester High blanked Cross Keys High 3-0 to improve to 14 points in Zone F, retaking the lead from Bellefield High who were held 2-2 by last-placed BB Coke.
Delroy Miller scored his sixth goal of the season, while Kevaughn Isaacs and Kason Clarke got one each for Manchester High who led 2-0 at half time.
A win for Bellefield would have seen them join St Elizabeth Technical in the next round.
The prolific Ishamel Currie scored twice to lead Garvey Maceo High to a 5-0 win over Porus and moved to 19 points at the top of Zone M, three more than Glenmuir High who were 4-0 winners over Bustamante High. Denbigh High stayed in mathematical contention with a 3-0 win over Fogo Road.
William Knibb won their third straight game in Zone C, upsetting Spot Valley High 3-1 at Spot Valley to open a four-point lead with 14 points.
Larone Clarke in the second minute and Shadwayne Williams in the 45th scored from long range to give William Knibb a 2-0 first-half lead, while Jason Barrett got the other goal in the second half.
Mannings School leapt over Grange Hill and took a two-point lead in Zone D after beating Little London 4-1 to go to 14 points with goals from Melvin Blair, Kevin Daley, Jevon Braham and an own goal.
Grange Hill were held 0-0 by Petersfield who are still in contention on 10 points.
Meanwhile, two rescheduled games will be played this afternoon.
Two-time defending champions Rusea's will travel to Montego Bay to face Herbert Morrison in Zone B, while Holmwood Technical will host Christiana High at Kirkvine in Zone G.
