Top schools triumph in ISSA TT

Six matches were played Thursday, five urban and one rural, as the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Table Tennis competition continued.

In the urban results, in Under-19 boys, defending champions KC blanked Hillel 5-0.

In urban Under-16 boys contests, JC drubbed Ascot 5-0, St Jago stopped Norman Manley 4-1, Wolmer's drubbed defending champions Campion 5-0 and St George's pipped Gaynstead 3-2.

In the rural encounter, former champions St Mary High drubbed newcomers York Castle 5-0.

After these results in the urban boys Under-19, with the first round now completed, KC lead the standings with six points, followed by St George's, five points, Wolmer's, four points and Hillel, three points. The top two finishers will contest the final.

In urban Group One boys Under-16, St Jago with a perfect win record, are on top with eight points, ahead of KC, seven points, Norman Manley, six, JC, five and Ascot, four points.

In Group Two boys Under-16, both Hillel and St George's are tied atop the standings with seven points each, followed by Wolmer's and Gaynstead on six points apiece, and Campion, four points.

The top three finishers from each group will advance to semi-finals.

In the North Eastern zone, all three teams -- St Mary High, York Castle and Dinthill are tied on two points each. The zone winner will contest the rural finals and the runner-up the semi-finals.

In individual results in the KC/Hillel Under-19 duel, Jordan Hazle, Glen-Ross McDonald, Dexter Mears and Korey Moulton all scored easy 3-0 victories over Dane McGibbon, Craig Chin, Luke Roberts and Luke Ho-Shue, respectively; and Jermaine James won by default, for KC's 5-0 win.

In the St George's versus Gaynstead close contest, Paul Dixon trounced Nathan Walker 3-0, Quan Henriques turned back Kaseem Calame 3-1 and Ryan Whervin nipped Ohadie Brown 3-2, for St George's three victories. Nicholas Haughton crushed Zachery Whervin 3-0 and Geovanni Maxwell got by David Malcolm 3-1, for Gaynstead's two consolation triumphs.

In the Under-16 match between JC and Ascot, Pierre-Charles Douet, Jan-Michael Simmonds and Daniel Bancroft eased past Mirando Ellis, Donte Morris and Seanbonnet Johnson, respectively all by 3-0 scores. Akeem McKenzie defeated Sheldon McNamee 3-1 and Dominic Smikle outlasted Javanne Wynter 3-2, to complete the 5-0 victory for Jamaica College.

The competition continues on Monday at 2:30 pm, with three urban girls matches.
