Saturday, February 04, 2012

The Trench Town 5 Kilometres fun run/walk will take place today at 5:30 am.

The event is part of the annual Trench Town Community Festival aimed at bringing visitors to the community and promoting unity among the residents.

The 'Trod the Trod that Bob Marley Trod' (Fun Run/Walk) will involve residents of Trench Town, friends of the community, athletes, entertainers, political figures, together on the route running through the five districts of Trench Town, ending at Boys' Town on Collie Smith Drive for a presentation ceremony. The race will begin at the Trench Town Culture Yard, turning onto Spanish Town Road, then up Maxfield Avenue on to Rosseau Road, Lyndhurst Road, Greenwich Park Road, through Havana on to Collie Smith Drive and ending at Boys' Town.

The road race will be followed by a sports day at Boys' Town featuring competitive T20 cricket, celebrity football match, netball rally, Capoeira demonstration and a domino tournament organised by the Jamaica Domino Association. The day's activities are being held with the kind support of Insports, which has donated equipment.

The Trench Town Community Festival will this year be commemorating the Earth Strong of reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley, OJ; 50 years of reggae music and Jamaica's 50th Anniversary of Independence. The fun run and sports day is one of several events.
