BY LIVINGSTON SCOTT Observer staff reporter

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Wolmer's Girls' stretched their unbeaten record in the ISSA Under-19 girls volleyball tournament to 13 games, after they defeated Old Harbour High 3-1 in their opening Group A quarter-final match played at Wolmer's yesterday.

In the group's other game, Camperdown defeated Muschette High by the same score.

Over in Group B, St Jago came from behind to clip Alpha 3-2, while Knox College eased past Mannings High 3-0.

At Heroes Circle, the Oneil Ebanks-coached Wolmer's cruised to a 2-0 lead, winning the first two sets, 25-13, 25-18, but Old Harbour started the third set well and went on to edge out their opponents 25-23 to claim that set.

However, the home team resumed the dominance in the fourth set, which they won 25-18 for a comfortable win.

At Camperdown, the hosts won the first set 25-19, but Muschette tied the game by winning the second 25-24.

However, Camperdown came back into their own for the next two sets, winning 25-21 and 25-24 to win the match, which left them joint at the top of the group with Wolmer's on three points.

Over in Group B, St Jago had to rally from two sets down against Alpha for a nail-biting win at home.

The visiting Alpha won the first set 27-25 and the second 25-17, but St Jago rebounded to win the third 25-17 and the fourth 25-12, before taking the decisive set 15-10, for a close victory.

St Jago share the early honours at the top of the group with Knox, who downed Mannings 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-18).

The boys' quarter-finals get underway today with four matches, Wolmer's entertain Knox at Wolmer's, and Mannings play Campion College at Mannings in Group C, while St Jago take on Camperdown High and Old Harbour go up against Muschette in Group D.
