VCB skips indoor season, targets World Champs
Tuesday, January 08, 2013 | 1:03 PM
KINGSTON, Jamaica - Veronica Campbell-Brown will skip the indoor athletics season this year to focus on the Outdoor World Championships in August.
The two-time Olympic 200m winner is taking a “gradual approach” to her training as she targets this year’s major athletics championship, to be held in Russia, she said in her International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) diary.
VCB, as she’s affectionately called, has had an enviable indoor record, winning the last two global 60m titles.
With one title in the 100m (2007) and 200m (2011) at the Outdoor World Championship level, Campbell-Brown will be seeking to add to her impressive haul, which includes seven silver medals in the individual and sprint relay events.
The veteran sprinter had mixed fortunes at least year’s Olympic Games, getting bronze in the 100m, silver in the sprint relay but finishing fourth in the 200m, which she won at the two previous Games.
