Williams, Sinclair imperious at Karl Dalhouse swim meet
BY PAUL BURROWES Observer writer

BRITNEY Williams smashed three meet records and Angara Sinclair clinched 10 gold in her 13-medal haul to steer her club Y Speedos to the top of the 17th staging of the LIME-sponsored Karl Dalhouse International which ended at the National Stadium Pool yesterday.
Y Speedos Swim Club won with 961 points, beating Tornadoes Swim Club 873 points, Marlins Swim Club 666, Swimaz Aquatic 479, Blue Seal 204, Royals 53, with Dolphin and Stingray Swim Clubs on 13 points each.
Seven meet records fell over the three-day meet, with Williams of Marlins launching into her exploits from day one beginning with the Girls 10 & Under 200m freestyle which was event number five and meet record number one.
A student of Wolmer's Prep, Williams snapped Breanna Roman's six-year-old mark of 2:49.77 for her own standard of 2:42.08. In fact, Marlins swept the 200m freestyle as Deandra Reynolds and Karci Gibson placed second and third with times of 2:56.38 and 3:00.92, respectively.
Williams also shattered meet records in the 200m individual medley and as expected in the 100m freestyle in the Girls 10 and Under.
Coral Tomascik's four-year record of 3:11.49 was duly erased in the 200m individual medley when Williams, with her proud mom Dawn Wheatley looking on, swam 3:10.99. Her Marlin teammates Gibson and Reynolds took second and third clocking 3:21.02 and 3:23.76.
Like an energiser bunny and competing in her last individual event, the Renaldo Meikle-coached Williams swam 1:12.82 to rub out Anjuii Barett's one-year mark of 1:16.06.
While Williams left the pool with a solid achievement of six gold and one silver, it was Y Speedos' long-limbed Sinclair, who appears to be growing a centimetre a month, that left with most medals, most points and two meet records.
One of the leading performers at many a swimming competitions, the 5ft-8in, 12-year-old made the Karl Dalhouse meet her own.
She accounted for meet records in the Girls 11-12 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle, one of them unbroken in 17 years.
Sinclair, who is attending Immaculate Conception High, posted 1:05.34 seconds to sever Janelle Atkinson's 100m freestyle old record of 1:05.78 set in 1995.
In the 50m freestyle she logged 28.85 seconds, making no more D'Agaene Clarke one-year record 29.32 seconds.
Sinclair racked up 97 points for Y Speedos with teammates Cameron Brown, a record-breaker himself, adding 54 points, Leanne McMaster 53 points, and Kevon Findley 50 points.
Next to Sinclair (who added three silver to her 10 golden performances) in the accumulation of points were Marlins' Sidrell Williams with 82 points, Tornadoes' Joseph Black 81 and Swimaz Breanna Roman 69 points.
Y Speedos' Brown produced a meet record in the Boys 10 & Under 200m individual medley with a time of 3:11.06. Robert Marshall held the previous mark of 3:12.81 set in 2008.
Some 300 swimmers from eight clubs took part in the Karl Dalhouse International.
The next meet is the Walter Rogers Age Group National Championships from February 16-19 at the National Stadium.
