Williams blasts four as Penwood win 6-0
Saturday, September 22, 2012
Romario Williams banged in four goals yesterday as Penwood High blanked Campion College 6-0 in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup Group A match at the Cling Cling Oval.
Williams struck in the 38th, 40th, 65th and 88th minutes to help push Penwood to six points with a record of two wins and a loss.
Sadiki Osbourne (6th minute) and Clifford Shaw (36th) were the other scorers for the home team.
Penwood head coach Rupert Nicholas credited his team for winning their second straight game and said he is not surprised with the recent good showings.
"I'm happy for scoring these goals and getting the win. I'm not surprised because players are fighting hard in training. There is now a pattern in the way we play," he told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
Campion coach Alvin Shaw said he is not displeased in his team's performance despite the heavy defeat.
"I'm not disappointed in the loss. These players are working hard in training, they are working to learn at every chance. They are young and we have to be patient with them," he said.
In the other Group A match yesterday, hosts Greater Portmore High stunned former champions Excelsior High 1-0.
Another former winner was shocked in Group D as visitors Calabar High succumbed to a 0-1 defeat to Innswood High.
In the other Group D matches, the 2006 winners Bridgeport High eased by visitors Tivoli Gardens High 3-0, while Haile Selassie and St Mary's College ended 1-1 at the Tinson Pen playfield.
In Group F, nine-man Wolmer's Boys edged visitors Oberlin High 2-1 to record their fourth victory in as many matches, while Jose Marti Technical trounced hapless St Andrew College 5-0.
Group G favourites Charlie Smith maintained their dominance by defeating home team Pemboke Hall 4-0, while aspirants Kingston College beat St Andrew Technical 2-0.
In matches on today, the 1982 winners Camperdown High entertain St Jago High, while 2010 triple champions host Waterford High in Group B action.
In Group C, reigning champions St George's College welcome Cumberland High, while Hydel High host Clan Carthy High and Dunoon Technical travel to Edward Seaga Complex to face Denham Town High.
Over in Group E, Trench Town High clash with St Catherine High and Spanish Town High host parish rivals Jonathan Grant High.
All matches are slated to start at 3:30 pm.
