Wolmer's whip Oberlin, top group

WOLMER'S Boys' and Spanish Town High secured top spots in their ISSA/Digicel/Gatorade Manning Cup groups after wins over Oberlin and St Catherine High yesterday.

Spanish Town clipped St Catherine, 2-1, in Zone E, while Wolmer's were 8-0 winners over Oberlin in Zone E. Wolmer's who had amassed 22 points from eight matches, could only be caught by Jose Marti before yesterday's game.

However, with yesterday's win in their penultimate game, they move to 25, 11 clear of nearest challengersJose Marti, who have two games left.

Meanwhile, Jose Marti maintained hopes of qualifying as second best from the group after an 8-2 drubbing of St Andrew College. Miguel Ormsby led the Calvert Fitzgerald-coached boys with a hat-trick. Anes Buchanan and Isiah Fuller notched braces, while Afhis Grant got the the other.

The other game between Kingston Technical and Donald Quarrie ended 0-0. Donald Quarrie are the only other team with a chance of advancing. They have 13 points from seven games.

Spanish Town also secured Zone E honours after their win at Prison Oval. Kevon Nembhard and Nicholas Smith scored for the Anthony Thompson-coached team who pushed their tally to 21, five clear of Holy Trinity and 10 ahead of St Catherine, with a game to go.

Meanwhile, Ascot's chances of progressing suffered a major blow after losing 1-O to Trench Town, who were scoring their first win of the season. Ascot are on 10 points, 11 off the lead but with a game in hand.

In Zone G, Kingston College (KC) kept close to leaders Charlie Smith with two matches to play after their 1-0 win over St Andrew Technical (STATHS). Tevon Campbell scored for KC, who move to 19 points, two behind Charlie Smith. The defeat saw STATHS slip four points behind KC and are all but out of the reckoning.

Ardenne beat Meadowbrook, 2-0, for their second win of the season, with goals from Gregory Williams and Travis White. The defeat was Meadowbrook's eighth in as many matches.

In today's games, Excelsior host Greater Portmore and Campion take on Penwood in Zone A.

In Zone B, Jamaica College entertain St Jago and Camperdown face Mona High, while in the lone Zone G match, Charlie Smith meet Pembroke Hall at Tony Spaulding Complex. All games start at 330 pm.
