THE reigning champions University Dynamites will look to secure a second title in two years when they face MoBay Sixers in today's championship match of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) Jamaica Premier League (JPL) cricket competition.

Play is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm at the scenic Ultimate Cricket ground in Discovery Bay, St Ann.

The respective teams are led by young captains with both youth and senior cricket experience for Jamaica.

The free-scoring Dynamites skipper, Jon-Ross Campbell, is 23 years old and a potential match winner at the top of the innings.

Jermaine Blackwood, 22, has led the Sixers to their first JPL Twenty20 (T20) final and is a game changer in the middle-order.

University Dynamites, mostly through the consistent batting of out-of-favour West Indies T20 player Nkrumah Bonner, automatically progressed to the final after topping the preliminary phase. Their only defeat came at the hands of Kingston Hurricanes in the third round.

MoBay Sixers, who previously lost to the Dynamites in the fourth round, ended second and had to playoff for a final spot with third-placed Spanish Town Titans.

The Sixers prevailed with relative ease thanks to Blackwood's unbeaten knock of 35 runs in a low-scoring run-chase.

He will likely need to replicate that kind of form if the Sixers are to have any chance of dethroning the explosive and well-organised Dynamites.

Today's showpiece event will be preceded by a 10:00 am promotional match played amongst current and past players.

The month-long tournament is sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board, through the TEF, to the tune of over $5 million. It is endorsed and organised by the Jamaica Cricket Association.

The other teams competing in this season's franchise-based JPL T20 were Mandeville Thunders and Ocho Rios Chargers.
